About Us

Mission Statement

Empower global citizens who build connections across cultures through linguistic and cultural proficiency.

Vision

Deliver high-quality language and culture instruction with flexibility and affordability.

Commitment to an ethical business model

As the owner of Globalinguae, Dr. Jillane Baros is passionate about ensuring we adhere to an ethical business model which models global citizenship for students and the community. Specifically, we do this by:
Recruiting quality instructors - Every instructor is a certified language teacher with a wealth of classroom experiences committed to effectively adapting our professional practices to an online format. This means our courses are aligned with state and national standards and draw upon our extensive academic knowledge and professional experiences to create effective. research-based, high-impact learning experiences.
If you are interested in becoming a Globalinguae instructor, please contact us. We are especially interested in recruiting teachers who can offer additional languages at the elementary and secondary/adult levels. Please note that you must hold a current teaching certification for the language and level you wish to offer.
Keeping courses and resources affordable - We firmly believe that becoming proficient in multiple language and cultures is a critical 21st century skill that everyone should have the opportunity to achieve. We ensure that instructors and contributors receive fair compensation while maximizing the accessibility of language learning
Ensuring all are welcome - We don't stop at simply "nondiscrimination." Rather, we intentionally and systematically examine our practices to ensure they are inclusive and representative of people from all backgrounds, nationalities, heritages, native languages, race, sex, orientation, gender, etc.
Giving back to communities - We look for every opportunity to use Globalinguae to empower global communities, especially students who wish to become global citizens as well as marginalized populations. While we're only just starting out, here are a few of the goals we hope to accomplish as we grow:
  • Ethical and intentional practices - What would learning a language be without native speakers to talk to? Globalinguae seeks out native speakers to participate in producing content, thereby giving back to the communities with whom we wish to interact as language learners. This is most evident in our Podcast, SpeakEasy Spanish, which offers paid guest spots and/or English assistance to native speakers in return for sharing their language and culture with us!
  • Improve access to English as a Second Language educational opportunities - while English is the dominant language in the United States and is useful worldwide, accessing courses and effective learning opportunities can be difficult and financially out-of-reach. Eventually, Globalinguae hopes to offer English as a Second Language curricula along with a sliding payment scale to serve those who have the highest need but often the most barriers to access English language education.
  • Improve Spanish literacy of native speakers - As a language teacher, it's a shame to see students who have grown up speaking a family language other than English, often referred to as "heritage" speakers in education, be denied the opportunity to become literate in their heritage language. Globalinguae plans to make courses and resources available for these students to help them not only to learn to read and write in Spanish, but also empower them to advocate for themselves to earn credits for their language proficiency and utilize their bilingual skills to open additional doors, including for employment and community outreach.
  • Scholarships for student travel - World travel is one of the most amazing experiences for broadening and inspiring the minds of students. Unfortunately, the costs of world travel can be prohibitive. Globalinguae hopes to assist students who would like to experience the world but cannot do so without financial assistance.
  • Philanthropy - From donations to local organizations to volunteering abroad, Globalinguae hopes to put our profits to work for the communities we wish to be a part of!
