Much of the content on this website is my own work - I specifically set out on this endeavor to collect what I do in the classroom and replicate it online for others to take advantage of best teaching practices for languages. Of course, as a teacher, I often utilize resources created by other people. Because of this, a few modifications must be made before using Globalinguae in your classroom or school, impacting the price of a classroom subscription. There are a few things to consider outlined on this page:
For administrators (if you do not have a language teacher in your building):
Do I want to use Globalinguae as a complete curriculum as is, taught and facilitated by Dr. Baros?
For teachers and administrators (if you have a language teacher and want to purchase resources):
Do I want a teacher account to facilitate and monitor student access to external resources? Which ones?
Do I want access to activities directly from the SOMOS curriculum by Martina Bex (The Comprehensible Classroom)?
Globalinguae as a Complete Curriculum - ideal for small schools without a language instructor
If you wish to purchase a Globalinguae Spanish course as a complete curriculum for your students, including grading and feedback by Profa/Dr. Baros, group discounts are available. Each student will have their own login information. I will set up a Google Classroom specifically for you students and the appropriate person at your site as an Google Classroom instructor. Profa will grade submitted work and provide appropriate feedback and support. The on-site instructor is responsible for:
Setting due dates (can be modified in Google Classroom)
Updating missing work (can be modified in Google Classroom)
Communicating responsibilities to parents and families
Monitoring student progress and submitting grades (collected from Google Classroom)
NOTE: These students will not be eligible to spend Linguae points.
If you are interested in more information or a quote for your site, please contact me and let me know what levels you are interested and approximately how many students you wish to enroll.
Globalinguae as a curricular supplement - ideal for teachers working in schools
If you wish to use Globalinguae as a teacher, Profa will not be grading or providing feedback on assignments. Instead, you will receive one account login per teacher ($30/year) and use this to share resources with your students. You will also not receive access to resources which are available only via paid subscription:
Can view but not comment on VoiceThread presentations
Here is a more detailed breakdown of all of the external resources I uses to deliver Globalinguae content and how you can access them:
SOMOS (variable) The SOMOS curriculum by Martina Bex (The Comprehensible Classroom) forms the backbone of our Independent Study Spanish Courses. In order to use resources derived directly from the SOMOS curriculum, you must have a teacher license for this curriculum. Per license agreements, this curriculum can be used indefinitely by a single teacher but not passed on to another teacher. You can purchase SOMOS I as a complete bundle (two years worth of content!) OR you can purchase specific units as needed. If you would like access to activities directly derived from the SOMOS curriculum, such as certain EdPuzzle stories, VoiceThread presentations, and Textivate reading activities, please contact me and submit proof of purchasing the specific units you would like access to - my unit number roughly match those used in Somos, follow the same sequence, and have the same/similar names. I can then unlock access to those activities for your account.
Google Classroom (free) I use this as my learning management system. I am happy to copy my Google Classroom course over to you as part of your subscription, however, so you're not starting from scratch.
Señor Wooly Pro ($85/year, up to 160 student accounts) I highly recommend this for ANY Spanish or French class! There is so much more there than just what students see!
VoiceThread ($79/year) This is the cool presentation tool which allows me to import media, create comments, and have students reply directly on the presentation, creating an interactive area where everyone's voice gets heard. I've only just scratched the surface of how to use it in education! All students will be able to view and listen to VoiceThreads on my website; only students with accounts can create comments.
Garbanzo ($99/year) This reading comprehension tool was created by Martina Bex (The Comprehensible Classroom) to align with the SOMOS curriculum, but you can use it with or without that curriculum! Want an instant library of easy-to-comprehend stories on a variety of topics? You've found it! As a teacher, you can access all of the lessons, create classes and invite students, assign lessons and "pathways" of lessons, and monitor student progress.
Quizlet (free and paid options) I love the capabilities and flexibility of Quizlet! You can create a free account and My Quizlet sets and courses are freely available online for students and teachers to join, use, copy, etc. However, if you want to create your own classes and sets or specifically see what your students are working on (with additional features for this in the paid version), then you should create your own account and simply copy my sets into your classes and account.
EdPuzzle (free and paid options) All students will be able to use my EdPuzzle activities, but you cannot monitor their progress or edit the activities. EdPuzzle allows you to turn videos into interactive activities. A free account lets you create up to 20 activities with decent features and you can give your students individual logins to access these activities. A paid account gives you more features, including monitoring student progress, grades, and more storage space. If you do create an account (free or paid), I would be very appreciative if you used my referral code: 198h9x Thank you!! Textivate (free and paid options) All students will be able to use my Textivate activities, but you cannot monitor their progress or edit the activities. Textivate allows you to upload a short text and turn it into a number of games instantly. You can even turn on text-to-speech! The free version allows you to create texts as needed - just copy and paste them in at Textivate.com and then click the "Textivate" button. However, you cannot store assignments and do not have access to "extras". A paid subscription also gives you cool capabilities for creating classes, giving student logins, and monitoring student progress on specific activity sequences you assign.
