When I see you through my eyes, I think that we are different. When I see you through my heart, I know we are the same." ~ Doe Zantamata
Hello, my name is Dr. Jillane Baros. My passion lies in serving students by creating inclusive and welcoming environments where all students learn and grow. I have the privilege of doing this directly in my own classroom every day. I began my educational career by working with TRiO Upward Bound, Americorps, teaching Spanish for six years, and advising multiple Gender and Sexuality Alliances (GSAs, also known as Gay-Straight Alliances). Now, I coordinate one of our district's alternative education programs and teach Spanish online. Globalinguae began as a mission to improve the online language courses available to students in our district who needed an online option for taking Spanish and ensuring they received the same, high-quality experiences as students who attend our in-person courses.
My work extends beyond my classroom and school through research including academic research intended for publication in peer-reviewed journals and action research which evaluates and informs educational decision-making. My areas of expertise include educational research, leadership, advocacy, and proficiency-based language instruction. This proficiency-based instruction, called Comprehensible Input, forms the foundation for all Globalinguae courses. Not only is it backed by research, bit it is considered to be "best practice" according to national standards for language education.
I use this section of the Globalinguae website to share my experiences, research, and perspectives with others who might find them useful. I also hope to engage with you and understand your perspectives and experiences. Here, you can find information about me, the work I've done so far, my areas of expertise, and period thoughts as I write about them in the blog. Please feel free to comment and/or contact me at any time - I love to hear from you!
