Video Content

  • Show your face as you speak.
  • Follow the script outlined for that video.
  • Use gestures, facial expressions, and tone of voice as appropriate (how you would in a normal conversation, especially with someone trying to understand your language).
  • Do not include text in the video. 
  • You must obtain written permission to show any person in the video, including parental/guardian consent for minors under the age of 18 (you will fill out and submit a form with signatures with your video.
  • Do not include any music, videos, or other media that you do not own.
  • Do not add any extra effects (fade in/fade out, sound effects, etc.).​​​

Video Quality

  • Videos should be well-lit and not appear dark, making it difficult to see you or the things you are talking about.
  • Videos should be stable, not shaky, and not move around. A tripod or stand should be used whenever possible. There is an exception is for specific videos that ask you to walk around and show different things while you speak; this will be noted specifically in the video instructions.
  • ​Audio must be clear and high-quality. Film your video in a quiet location to minimize background noise, including wind.

Technical Standards

  • Videos should be in .mp4 format.
  • Videos should be normal size and ratio to fill a computer screen (no vertical videos!).
  • Videos should not be blurry or low-resolution. Viewers should be easily able to see the speaker and not be distracted by image quality.

Transcript Guidelines

  • Transcripts should have minimal to no errors.
  • Transcribe everything you say exactly how you say it.
  • Each time you speak, start a new paragraph. Each time you pause, double space between the paragraphs.
  • Do not include time stamps.
  • Upload your document as a Word document (.doc, .docx) or a PDF (.pdf).
